has national and international career experience including the planning, design, construction and operation of large multipurpose reservoirs; deterministic and statistical hydrology; hydraulic, hydrodynamic and sediment transport analysis; hydraulic structures design; hydropower engineering and system power studies; hydraulic transient analysis; instream flow studies; operational planning and water control decision support for multipurpose reservoir systems; comprehensive river basin planning and associated technical, economic, and policy analysis; institutional capacity-building for integrated river basin management; multipurpose water project benefit-cost analysis and cost allocation studies; coastal engineering and design; computer model development and implementation. He earned his bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of South Florida, and his Masters and Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
George McMahon has authored one book and dozens of peer-reviewed journal papers, conference proceedings papers and technical reports on wide range of topics covering various technical, economic and policy aspects of water management. He is active in several ASCE-EWRI committees and is currently an Associate Editor for the ASCE Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management. He recently received ACEC State and National Recognition awards for his contributions as Technical Director, Surface Water Resource Assessment for Georgia Statewide Water Planning.
