Cassie Castorena Receives T&DI Outstanding Younger Member Award
Dr. Cassie Castorena, Ph.D., A.M.ASCE, has been selected as the recipient of the 2018 Transportation & Development Institute (T&DI)
Outstanding Younger Member Award
. Dr. Castorena will be recognized at the
ASCE-T&DI International Conference on Transportation and Development
in Pittsburgh, PA, on July 16, 2018.
Dr. Castorena is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at North Carolina State University (NCSU). Dr. Castorena's research focuses on the characterization and modeling of asphalt binders, emulsions, mastics, and asphalt mixtures. She has served as the PI or Co-PI for projects supported by the Federal Highway Administration, National Cooperative Highway Research Program, National Science Foundation, and North Carolina Department of Transportation . Her work has been supported by over 3.5 million dollars of research funding, and she has published 44 technical journal articles, conference papers, and technical reports. Dr. Castorena has received the Outstanding Teacher Award from NCSU in 2017 and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Research Advisory Committee for a High Value Research Award in 2016.
Dr. Castorena is currently an Associate Member of ASCE and a member of T&DI. She is also a member of the Transportation Research Board committee AFK20, Asphalt Binders and the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologist.
The T&DI Outstanding Younger Member Award recognizes younger members (under 36 years of age) who have been selected by the T&DI Younger Member Committee for their professional contributions to transportation engineering.
