Eyad Masad Receives the 2019 James Laurie Prize

The Transportation and Development Institute (T&DI) is pleased to announce the selection of Eyad Masad, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, to receive the 2019 James Laurie Prize for his transformative contributions to the advancement of transportation engineering through his innovative research on asphalt concrete micro-mechanical modeling.

Dr. Masad's research focuses on microstructure characterization, constitutive modeling, and micromechanics of pavement materials and systems.  He has published more than 350 technical papers and reports including 200 journal papers.  He is also the holder of one US patent.  He is the co-author of a book on Pavement Design and Materials, which is adopted for teaching pavement courses in many universities around the world. Dr. Masad has established several research laboratories and chaired/co-chaired many conferences, symposia, and workshops sponsored by professional organizations all over the world.

Dr. Masad is also an excellent educator. He is a professor in the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University and a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Program at Texas A&M at Qatar.  Dr. Masad serves as the Executive Director of Global Initiatives in the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station. As a progressive-minded academic, he is both teacher and mentor to his students.  Dr. Masad has received several university awards including the Dean's Leadership Award, Zachry Professorship, the Dean's Meritorious Service Award, Halliburton Professorship Award for Scholarly Excellence in Engineering, to name a few.

Dr. Masad is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a member of the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists, and a member of the American Society for Engineering Education.  He was the Chair of the Pavement Committee of the Geo-Institute, ASCE.  

Dr. Masad will be recognized as the 2019 James Laurie Prize winner at the ASCE T&DI International Airfield & Highway Pavements Conference in Chicago, IL, on July 22, 2019.
